SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2026
Week 2
Below is the second preliminary data summary for the 2026 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of America. This week's summary includes sampling conducted by NMFS aboard the R/V Oregon II from June 8-15, Florida aboard the R/V Tommy Munro from June 1-11, and Louisiana aboard the R/V Pelican from June 8-12. Catch data were collected using a 40-ft trawl.
Plotted catch rates have been standardized to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are reported as heads-on counts. The grid squares shown on the charts represent 10-minute latitude-longitude grids. The value displayed within each grid square is the average catch rate or count from all stations sampled within that grid, which may include one or more sampling stations. Sampling stations were selected randomly within depth strata.
Catch data indicated that the highest catch rate of brown shrimp was 126.6 lb/hr at a depth of 10 fm, located at 28°34' N latitude and 91°18' W longitude. The highest catch rate of white shrimp was 67.9 lb/hr at a depth of 10 fm, located at 29°18' N latitude and 92°49' W longitude. The highest catch rate of pink shrimp was 46.5 lb/hr at a depth of 16 fm, located at 25°59' N latitude and 82°28' W longitude. The maximum combined catch rate for all three shrimp species was 2,082 lb/hr at a depth of 26 fm, located at 25°56' N latitude and 83°02' W longitude.
