SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2010

Week 6

Below the sixth preliminary data summary for the 2010 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling from June 25 to July 5 by the Florida vessel Tommy Munro and from July 5 to July 11by the NMFS vessel Oregon II. Catch data from the Oregon II were taken with a 40-ft trawl.

Plotted catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl (20-ft trawl x 2). Shrimp counts are heads-on. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids. The number in each grid square is the average catch or count from all stations (may be one or more stations) that were sampled within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.

The catch data indicated that the highest catch rate of brown shrimp was 137.4 lb/hr in 26 fm at 26° 19' N. lat. and 96° 40' W. long. The highest catch rate of white shrimp was 6.4 lb/hr in 18 fm at 26° 28' N. lat. and 97° 01' W. long. The highest catch rate of pink shrimp was 48.8 lb/hr in 10 fm at 27° 32' N. lat. and 83° 03' W. long. The maximum total catch rate excluding the three shrimp species was 2,293 lb/hr in 7 fm at 25° 12' N. lat. and 81° 42' W. long.

Sampling coverage for the next weekly report will be by the NMFS vessel Oregon II.
