SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2003

Week 6

This week's summary includes sampling from July 8 through July 14 by the NOAA Ship OREGON II and the R/V PELICAN. Catch data from all vessels were taken with a 40-ft trawl.

Catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are heads-off. Catch rates for finfish are given in the charts divided by 10; e.g., a charted catch rate of 19 means 190 lb/hr. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids and contain an average catch or count from one or more sampling stations within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.

The catch data east of the River indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 16.7 lb/hr of 33-count shrimp at 29E47.7' N. lat. and 88E24.4' W. long., in 19 fm. The were no catches of white shrimp east of the River. The catch data east of the River indicated that the highest pink shrimp catch rate was 13.7 lb/hr of 33-count shrimp at 29E26.7' N. lat. and 88E47.4' W. long., in 11 fm. The highest finfish catch rate east of the River was 1677 lb/hr reported in 45 fm at 29E16.1' N. lat. and 88E21.7' W. long., with Atlantic croaker being the predominant finfish species.

The catch data west of the River indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 67.1 lb/hr of 58-count shrimp at 28E31.3' N. lat. and 90E59.5' W. long., in 16 fm. The catch data west of the River indicated that the highest white shrimp catch rate was 4.1 lb/hr of 14-count shrimp at 28E37.9' N. lat and 90E31.5' W. long. in 13 fm. There were no significant catches of pink shrimp west of the River. The highest finfish catch rate west of the River was 247 lb/hr reported at 28E30.4' N. lat. and 93E22.1' W. long., in 22 fm, with Longspine porgy being the predominant finfish species.

Catches of shrimp off Texas were all under 1 lb/hr. The highest finfish catch rate off Texas was 130 lb/hr at 28E01.5' N. long and 94E04.6' W. long. in 40 fm, with no species being predominant.
