Commercial Landings data for the Gulf States                                                 

The FIN “Commercial Landings” database stores landings data as captured by state “Commercial Dealers” which are reported by state “Commercial Fishermen”.  Currently, this is only “Primary Fished” data. (Example: A commercial fishermen fishes in several areas during a single fishing day/trip. The area that was fished the longest is what the dealer reports as the Primary area. All species caught in that area as well as all other areas for that day/trip are totaled into this primary record.) This data is then collected by the respective state, reviewed, and forwarded to the FIN warehouse for loading. It should be noted that FIN performs quality data checks but in relation, accepts this data “as is” from each state. The loaded data is then aggregated (Summarized by Year, State and Species) into a separate table for public access.

CONFIDENTIAL USER ACCESS & FORMS

GSMFC confidential partner access is available and can be attained by completely filling out the following two (2) forms:

 1. Statement of Non-Disclosure; Your Supervisor or Program Manager need to sign it and mail it to: Southeast Fisheries Science Center, ATTN: Patrick Cope, 75 Virginia Beach Dr. Miami, FL 33149 "for approval". Enclose a self addressed stamped envelope with a note requesting a copy of the "Statement" be returned to you. (Ref: NOAA Administrative Order 216-100)

After you receive your approved, signed copy of the "Statement of Non-Disclosure",  proceed to step (2) and fill out the "FIN Confidential User ID Request Form". MAIL BOTH FORMS TO FIN!

2. FIN Confidential User ID Request form; Mail this form along with your approved "Statement of Non-Disclosure" to GSMFC, Attn: FIN Data Manager, PO Box 726, Ocean Springs, MS. 39566-0726.

Public access of the summary level landings and other GSMFC public data sets  is currently available at: FIN Databases

Recreational Catch and Harvest Estimates for the Gulf States

The data used in the FIN warehouse for Recreational Catch, Harvest and Effort estimates is based on the National Marine Fisheries Service, Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistical Survey (MRFSS). As MRFSS staff complete estimates of catch they are transferred to the FIN database.
